Bridging the Gap: Public-Interest Architectural Internships
Katie Wakeford and Georgia Bizios, editors
Though I enjoy the facets of interaction design, I am still fascinated by the possibilities of responsible print design. I engaged in this book project with architect Georgia Bizios and intern architect Katie Wakeford after they curated a series of essays about public-interest architectural internships.
We wanted the design of the book to reflect the collaborative nature of the work described within it; after a series of explorations, our resulting concept joins together “slices” of images provided by each contributor as the cover image. Inside the book, each image slice is associated with the opening image of its respective chapter, and the slices serve as a chapter navigation system for the reader, as well as a structural element of the layouts within the individual chapters.
This project was a great learning opportunity in terms of working with and learning from designers from a different discipline, and the result is a combination of our different design ideas and perspectives. Since the creation of the printed version, we have also released a companion eBook.
